June 5: The Long-Term HIV & AIDS Survivors Day

On June 5, 1981, CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report mentioned for the first time what it was to be known as HIV. Read more here.

The HIV Longterm Survivors Awareness Day was first observed on June 5, 2014. This year, the 2025 theme of the HLTSAD was “Leading with Legacy” and focused on stories of “survivorship.”
